Angelika dela Cruz and Non-Showbiz Husband Said “I do’s” in Tagaytay Church Wedding

Veteran actress Angelika dela Cruz (Real name Maria Lourdes Egger Dela Cruz) and husband Orion Casareo exchanged “I do’s” in their church wedding held last December 4, 2009 in Tagaytay City, Cavite.

The two were already civilly married before they had their church wedding. According to Philippine Entertainment Portal, Angelika and Orion were first wed in a civil ceremony on August 19, 2008 in Bicol.

Attended by their family and close friends in the showbiz industry, the two insisted to have a private and intimate wedding ceremony in Tagaytay. Butterscotch was the motif of their wedding and Angelika was the only one wearing white. She wore a wedding gown made by designer Alex Pigao. Inno Sotto, on the other hand, designed their wedding cake from Goldilocks.

Among their principal sponsors include renowned producer Mother Lily Monteverde, Sen. Panfilo 'Ping' Lacson, GMA-7 Assistant Vice President for Drama Lilybeth Rasonable, GMA-7 Program Unit Manager Rams David, Sen. Lito Lapid, actress Nadia Montenegro, GMA Films President Annette Gozon Abrogar, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada at actress Lani Mercado. Angelika and Orion’s son, Gabby, served as their ring bearer.

In an interview in showbiz-oriented talk show Startalk, Mr. and Mrs. Casareo shared how their first met. The two met through a common friend when Orion visited the actress on the set. As Mr, Casareo described it, it was love at first sight. The two officially became a couple on December 4, 2005. A year after, Orion asked her hand in marriage and in August, the two had their civil wedding. The two decided to tie the knot last December 4 in celebration of their fourth anniversary. They chose Tagaytay City because of its romantic ambiance and cool climate. The couple also wanted to have their second honeymoon in the Philippines’ Second Summer Capital.

International Study Show Marriage is Good for the Health

Decided on tying the knot? You may be doing more than committing your life to your partner. A recent international study revealed that getting married is positive for the mental health of both men and women, resulting in reduced risks of the likelihood of most mental disorders such as depression, anxiety and substance abuse

The world-first study, led by clinical psychologist Dr. Kate Scott from the University of Otago Wellington - School of Medicine and Health Sciences, was conducted across 15 countries and 34,493 people. It was based on World Health Organization (WHO) mental health surveys across developing and developed countries in the past decade, and published in the UK journal Psychological Medicine.

“One of the more important findings is that in recent years it has been asserted that marriage is better for men than for women in terms of mental health. This study does not agree with that position. We found that compared to never getting married, getting married is good for both men and women in terms of most mental health disorders.” said Dr. Scott in a press statement.

“What our study points to is that the marital relationship offers a lot of mental health benefits for both men and women, and that the distress and disruption associated with ending marriage can make people vulnerable to developing mental disorders”, she added.

The major international study has been funded by the Ministry of Health , Health Research Council and the Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand and carried out in association with the WHO, Harvard University and a number of other organizations internationally.

So go ahead and say ‘I do’, not only to your partner-for-life, but to good health and a great life with your loved one.

Ban on Weddings Held Outside Church Imposed in Manila

Soon-to-wed couples who plan to have their wedding in a garden, hotel, or beach may put their wedding plans on hold as Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales has banned wedding rites from being held outside the churches.

In a circular released recently, Cardinal Rosales said “all Catholic marriages within the Archdiocese of Manila should be held only within the parish churches, except those in “articulo mortis” cases”. By articulo mortis means ‘at the time of death’ or ‘at the point of death’. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines news site, www.cbcpnews.com, used the religious term in periculo mortis which means ‘in danger of death’.

The Cardinal said he was acting to prevent the sacrament of marriage being ridiculed and to press the observance of “all ecclesiastical laws.”

“I have to ensure that abuses do not creep into ecclesiastical discipline, especially concerning the celebration of the sacrament of marriage”, Cardinal Rosales said.

Title VII Chapter V Canon 1118 does state that wedding should be celebrated in a parish church. However, each bishop may particularize the policy in his diocese.

In an interview over Radio Veritas (DZRV 846kHz) last June 1, 2009, Cardinal Rosales reminded couples to focus on the solemnity of their marriage and avoid placing too much attention on their wedding details. He also reminded soon-to-wed couples of the value of the “mystery of the sacrament.”
