Royal Wedding Gifts to Support A Cause

More than looking at the wedding gown or the wedding reception style, to-be weds can also emulate the Royal Couple by supporting a cause to make their wedding celebration more meaningful.

"Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton have created a charitable gift fund to help celebrate their wedding. The fund will focus on assisting charities which support the five causes chosen by the couple. These causes are close to their hearts and reflect the experiences, passions and values of their lives so far. Having been touched by the goodwill shown to them since their engagement, they have asked that anyone wishing to send them a wedding gift consider doing so in the form of a donation to the fund."

Married to a Royal: 10 Things Kate Middleton Can’t Do Anymore

Most of us don’t really know what happens inside the lives of British royalty.

Some generations ago, “commoners” can be tasered for getting too close to the British Royal family. And the most common practice is for royalty to marry fellow royalty. Some things have changed, especially today as the future king proposed to a “commoner” particularly Prince William to Kate Middleton.

And although it’s quite romantic and magical for a prince to be allowed to marry an ordinary girl, the Royal Family still follows a rigid set of rules and etiquette that a common person would have trouble adjusting to.

From Yahoo! UK, get to know some of the things a normal Kate won’t be able to do when she becomes a royal Catherine.

1. Kate can no longer be referred to as “Kate”
When Kate Middleton joins the House of Windsor, her official title will become ‘Her Royal Highness the Princess William of Wales’.

She can only be addressed as 'Catherine' or 'Ma'am.'

2. Kate can no longer vote

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family are allowed to vote but they do not do so because of the need for the Royal Family to be neutral.

This is in line with their public role as being able to identify with all sectors of society, including minorities and special interest groups.

3. Kate cannot run for political office

Again, because the Royal Family has to keep neutral, they cannot run for office.

4. Kate can no longer work

So far, her working experience has only been seven months as a casual accessories buyer for clothing chain Jigsaw and a short time working for the family company, Party Pieces. But any future work aspirations she may have can no longer be realized. Royals and careers don’t mix well as history has proven.

5. Kate cannot sign anything unofficial

If Prince William becomes King, Kate might have to sign government papers and bring legislation into force in her husband’s place.

Because of this, people in their position are strictly not supposed to sign anything that would lead to their signature being forged.

6. Kate can no longer say or do anything controversial

She can no longer express anything that would be blown into something controversial like her preferred political position, social position, et cetera et cetera.

She has succeeded so far not making any wrong comments. The world has only heard her speak once after her and William’s engagement (but even that was a heavily rehearsed affair).

7. Kate cannot escape the scrutiny

Kate was criticized for her fashion style and "tumble"
at a charity event she supported.

Kate can expect scrutiny in everything she does because she will be on the spotlight 24/7. She's already been tagged "waity kaity"(for apparently always waiting for Prince William), photographed even while riding a public bus, and mocked for her fashion sense. This kind of scrutiny will continue to grow and extend to all aspects of her life.

8. Kate cannot also play Monopoly?

“In 2008, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, said that the Royal Family was not allowed to play Monopoly at home ‘because it gets too vicious’." Kate, then, would have to be careful in selecting what games to play or she'll end up playing on her own.

9. Kate can no longer eat shellfish.
Shellfish is never served to British Royals for fear of food poisoning. (Let's all hope Kate is not fond of delicious lobsters or crabs.)

10. Kate can no longer finish her dinner (if she eats slower than the Queen).
“In Britain, when the Queen stops eating, you stop as well, fork in hand.”

After reading all of these restrictions, would you still want to be a princess?

Royal Wedding Updates: Excitement as April 29 Comes Close!

Imagine the preparations Britain is making for the global celebration a.k.a. The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. All have to be well and perfectly planned now as the April 29 Royal Wedding comes close.

The Expectations
What makes the Royal Wedding more exciting and nerve-wracking for the people behind the preparations are the expectations set for the Royal Wedding:
  • It will the biggest royal occasion in 30 years, bringing closure to the tragic legacy of the famous Princess Diana.
  • Two billion people around the world will be watching live on April 29 either via internet or on their television sets.
  • Hundreds of thousands will be lining the route from Westminster Abbey to see the newlyweds.
  • Around 1,900 guests including foreign royals and celebrities will be present for the service.

The Threats
Royal officials are working very hard to ensure that the global event goes smoothly and without a glitch for the couple. Some of what they are preparing for are security risks for the notable guests, the public and of course, the couple.

A massive security operation was launched by the British police to guard against the threat of terror attacks and protests. A group of Muslim extremists were reportedly carrying through their threat to protest outside the wedding.

Britain's small republican movement is also having a protest, but in a light-hearted street party to promote its bid to see off the monarchy.

The hundreds of thousands of guests lining up to catch a glimpse of the couple will be difficult to control. The British police has also set up preparations to ensure order as the newlyweds lead the procession from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace.

Scotland Yard said it would have 5,000 officers on duty. It also pledged to prevent any disturbances as the Royal Wedding is ongoing.

More Details As the Royal Wedding Day Comes Close
Some 40 monarchs including Prince Albert of Monaco with representatives of more than 100 countries will be at the service. Some friends and acquaintances of the couple will also be present.

At 1000 GMT at Westminster Abbey, the service will start. After the service, the newlyweds will lead a procession to Buckingham Palace, travelling in a horse-drawn carriage past landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament and the Mall.

About 650 guests have been invited to the reception at the palace. Some 300 lucky people will be invited to the dinner-dance hosted by Prince Charles.

Bucklebery, Kate’s home village will also be having a street party to celebrate the event.

Wedding Updates to be Awaited
  • What would Kate Middleton’s wedding dress look like?
  • What titles would the royal couple take?
  • Would the couple copy Charles and Diana’s kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace?

We just have to wait to find out! But what we do know is that all of us can be updated on the wedding day itself as the royal wedding will be covered and beamed around the world on television as well as streamed live on YouTube. Royal officials will also post blog and Twitter updates.

The excitement heightens as parts of the capital are being decked out in red, white and blue of the British flag. The government has declared April 29 a public holiday in Britain. Too bad April 29 will not be a holiday here in the Philippines!

Celebrity Singer Rachel Alejandro Finds 'The One'

Rachel Alejandro is marrying Spanish journalist Carlos Santamaria in Boracay and guess who’s writing a wedding song for her? That’s right, her ex-boyfriend Dingdong Avanzado.

“I was very appreciative that he made a song [for me and Carlos], for the wedding… It's called 'The One’,” said Rachel in an interview.

Maganda, maganda 'yong kanta… I haven’t heard the whole thing yet but I was touched that he did that,” she said.

Several days from now the big day will happen soon but Rachel still did not disclose the exact date of her wedding.

For some curious folks out there thinking why she is not wearing an engagement ring, Rachel said it was because no formal proposal took place. Their decision to get married only occurred to them during their short stay in Vietnam.

“We spent a few days there and then nag-usap lang kami. We said, ‘You know what, kung ganito tayo kasaya lagi we should get married.' And that was it,” Rachel said.

Though happy as any bride can be, she disclosed that marriage will not be easy especially with her future husband’s job.

"Naloka-loka ako noong pinadala siya sa Japan recently with the radiation and all that, talagang umiiyak ako. Sabi ko, ganoon pala talaga. Siyempre, he's a reporter, kailangan niya," she said.

Rachel enjoys taking care of their wedding preparations and she appreciates her family’s help.
"Everyday, it's like we're doing things together. This is parang part of the whole process and I'm really enjoying every minute of it," she said.

Geneva Cruz and Ricky Rivero will be her maid of honor and man of honor, respectively.

Catholic Church Says NO to Robin-Mariel Wedding

Lingayen Archbishop Oscar Cruz, the National Appellate Matrimonial Tribunal head declared in an interview that the Church would not allow Robin and Mariel’s Wedding.
Why? The main issue against the wedding was not the Muslim rites administered to the couple but the difference in the teachings of the two religions. Under Islamic Law, the husband is allowed to have more than one wife.

Archbishop Cruz said that he respects the Islam religion and therefore they should also respect the teachings of the Catholic religion. He added that even if Padilla promises that this marriage will be his very last, the Church’s approval for their marriage will still not materialize.

Royal Wedding on iTunes

The Prince William and Kate Middleton Royal Wedding Ceremony will be available within hours for download on iTunes and other leading online stores right after the wedding ceremony, record producers say.

On the 29th of April 2011, the royal couple will be having their marriage ceremony at London’s Westminster Abbey.

Six days after the wedding ceremony, the recording will be released in record shops worldwide by classical label Decca Records. Decca also recorded the Prince Charles and Princess Diana wedding in 1981 as well as her funeral in 1997.

This is the first time for a British royal event to be released for download right after the ceremony.

"The wedding means so much to millions of people all over the world -- we have to capture every note and every nuance perfectly and have the recording ready within minutes of the end of the ceremony,” said Decca president.

The label is expecting millions to grab a copy of the royal wedding.

Ogie’s Charity Work Inspired by Marriage

Happily married Ogie Olcasid.
Wedding Photo by Nice Print Photography
Contrary to the gossip going around that Ogie’s charitable endeavors are interfering with his marriage, Ogie said that married life has actually inspired him to do charity work.

“Quite the contrary, my married life has made me do all this work. I am very much happily married and that is why I have the capacity to share my time and effort because God has blessed us with so much.”

“Ogie and Regine’s Ukay-Ukay” is the couple’s way to raise funds for the Kapuso Foundation.
This April 15 to 17, during the Heat Wave Summer Bazaar at the World Trade Center, the couple would be soliciting pre-owned personal belongings like clothes, bags, shoes or accessories from celebrity friends to sell at the bazaar.

The money would go to the construction of 50 classrooms every year in challenged and remote communities in the country.

“It’s a very good idea but I don’t know if it will be an annual event. We need to raise P35 million to rehabilitate schools that have been destroyed by calamities,” explained Ogie.

The funds will be for alleviating shortage of classrooms which now totals 146,946, as reported by the Department of Education
.

Lily Monteverde, movie producer, has already donated P1 million to Ogie and Regine’s cause.

Marriage has truly been fruitful not only to Regine and Ogie but also to the students they will be able to help.

US Wedding of Bong and Lani?

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Bong Revilla and Cavite Representative Lani Mercado’s renewal of vows on their silver wedding anniversary was set on May 10 in California but it was reportedly cancelled.

“Everything was set,” Lani said. “In fact, we have already reserved the place.” The wedding ceremony was to be held at the Church of the Recessional in Glendale Forest Lawn where Michael Jackson is buried.

The wedding ceremony was set on May 10 to suit the schedules of their ninongs and ninangs most of whom are watching the Manny Paquiao versus Shane Moseley fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 7. Their actual silver wedding anniversary date is on May 28.

But because of their public servants’ duties, they had to cancel the US wedding as the Senate session opens on May 9 and Bong cannot be absent, according to Lani.

The good news is that the renewal of vows will still push through but Lani did not disclose where and when it will be held. What’s sure is that the couple will be celebrating it with their six children.

“Bong and Lani were married twice, first on May 28, 1986 in California, which they officially celebrate, and then on March 25, 1998, at a church wedding in Cavite,” according to Ricky Lo.

Why [not] Say "I DO" To A Cebu Wedding?

Why would a couple choose Cebu for their wedding? “Why not,” a Cebuana friend answered me incredulously.

Say I DO to an Island Wedding in Mactan, Cebu.
Wedding Photo by Ariel Javelosa Photography.
The look on her face was the perfect response for my asking such a ridiculous question. Silly me! Cebu will not be dubbed as the Queen of the South for no reason. Being a center of commerce and trade, Cebu is undoubtedly the world-beater of the Southern Philippines and is one of the country’s strongest economies. But this is not the only reason why people flock to Cebu. Business people, tourists and couples travel to take pleasure in the beautiful scenery Cebu offers. Most of them choose the Queen City for their special occasions, such as weddings, for it offers a diversity of beautiful, exotic, and romantic places. Cebu also boasts of abundant supplier resources to make event planning truly hassle-free. Moreover, Cebu doesn’t just offer what a couple need for their most special moment, instead, it offers the best. From wedding venues to wedding photographers, from wedding gown designers to wedding caterers – Cebu has proven to be a powerhouse. So the better question to ask is: Why NOT say “I do” in Cebu?

A Wedding Realized Through Skype Technology

Samuel and Helen's Skype Wedding.
Photo from Signs of the Times (SOTT.net)
LOS ANGELES – A California couple was supposed to get married over the weekend but plans became different when the groom had a lung infection which landed him in the isolation ward of a hospital. The couple continued the ceremony anyway via Skype.

Samuel Kim and Helen Oh, both 27, has set their plans to get married in the southern California city of Fullerton on Saturday. Guests from as far as Korea and New York were coming.

Initially, Kim was too nervous to tell his bride that he was spitting up blood last week for fear that it would cause her grief. But he did tell her, later in the week, where the couple improvised a solution by holding the wedding ceremony via Skype’s Wed video conferencing system.

Although not the wedding the couple has dreamed of, the guests said it was inspirational, admiring the bride especially for being able to stand alone at the altar without faltering.

"He said he will make up for it, he promised me he's going to be the best husband in the world," the bride said. "He felt really terrible that he wasn't there."

Reuters reported that, “the Saturday afternoon wedding utilized five live cameramen at the couple's high-tech Korean church capturing the ceremony for guests watching on jumbo screens, and for Kim himself watching on a laptop in the hospital's isolation ward.”

Kim's hospital room was decorated with flowers that nurses bought with their own money, he said.

To make up for his absence, Kim surprised Oh with plane tickets to Europe for their honeymoon. They will visit Paris and Prague as soon as he recovers from his illness.

After the Wedding: John – Priscilla talk about Destiny, Love

The newly-weds John Estrada and Priscilla Meirelles-Estrada had their first interview as a married couple to talk about love and destiny. The interview was done by Boy Abunda in a local entertainment news program right after their wedding.

John Estrada shared how their love story all started.

“The very first time that we had a date... alam mo ba 'yung meron tayong sa ano, sa pagkatao natin, meron tayong mga bagay na nakikita na parang, 'Ops.'

“Priscilla was coming up the escalator that time. Manonood kami ng sine. Tapos ako, [and] si good friend Perry. Sabi ni Perry, 'Dude, 'pag 'yan naman ang magiging date mo ngayon, kung ako sa'yo pakasalan mo na 'yon.' So alam mo 'yung pag-ganon ni Priscilla sa escalator, 'tas tumitingin kung nasan kami. Sabi ko, 'Uh-o. Hmm, sana ito na nga 'yon'," he said laughing.

Priscilla on the other hand shares her belief in destiny.

“I don't believe that anything is by chance in life and, you know, I really think that there is a plan for everything and a reason why everything happens,” she said.

Favorite parts of the wedding ceremony?

Definitely when I walked the aisle and they're playing one of my favorite songs, the song I dreamed of [playing], you know, [while] walking. I realized that I was really getting married, I was being somebody else's, you know, Mrs. and I'm gonna build my own family,” said Meirelles.

The Wedding Kiss of John and Priscilla.
Wedding Photo by Nice Print Photograph

Jokingly, John said, “I think the kiss was nice.”

“And yeah, 'yung paglakad niya papunta sa 'kin, waiting for her at the altar, maganda. At inenjoy ko 'yung reception talaga. You know, masaya lahat,” he added.

Honeymoon?

Both are individually busy so plans for honeymoon are still on hold. Both are not yet rushing to have their honeymoon.

What about the baby?

Priscilla admitted that she was not ready to have a baby at the moment.

“Ako ready ako, pero not now. I really wanna enjoy this moment and I really believe that there's something very special about being married and everything. So I don't want to rush it with kids already because I don't think that, at this moment in time, we need to enjoy each other in a different perspective. Not anymore just a boyfriend-girlfriend, now as a couple. When God wants to bless us with kids, and we're ready for it. Why not?,” she explained.

Estrada on the other hand, shares Priscilla’s mom’s wishes to have a grandchild.

“'Yung nanay niya, sabi niya dapat daw sa December pagbalik niya, or January, dapat daw may karga-karga na siya. Siguro malapit-lapit na 'to pero hindi ko alam sa asawa ko. [Kung] talagang ready na sya, I am ready,” he said.

What is Love to them?

Priscilla said it’s about giving while Estrada simply described it as wonderful.
